Prototyping a system to monitor remote pipelines to detect and locate third party events upon the pipeline.
ADEPT consists of battery powered wireless nodes, with typically greater than 10 year battery life, deployed along the pipeline at approximately regular intervals (1-3 km). As each node is autonomous the number of nodes that can be deployed is unlimited and any length of pipeline can be monitored. Alerts are sent via the Iridium global satellite network which has worldwide coverage. A secure Monitoring Centre receives alerts from nodes and reports events to the user. As the nodes communicate wirelessly, this removes the need to place cable along the entire length of the pipeline, saving cost and making each node independent.
