Model-Based Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) control for torque, fuel consumption (BSFC) and combustion instability in TI-VCT engine.
TI-VCT engines have multiple actuators and multiple control objectives for torque, fuel consumption and combustion instability, and so requires a true multi-variable control algorithm to provide performance. This was a simulation study using LabVIEW CD&SIM into the use of a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) MIMO optimal control applied to a nonlinear engine model. The controller tracks the demanded torque at the same time as minimising brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and combustion instability (CI).
Other variables such as engine speed and coolant temperature are used for external scheduling.
